So, we're looking to find a great adoptive home for one of our cats. He's not adjusting well to the dog, and after 7 months, I don't see anything changing. So, if you would like to adopt an 8-year-old, medium-hair, good-natured (as long as you don't have a dog), neutered male cat, just let us know at info@mattcobb.com or jillkcobb@gmail.com.
Tonight, Jackson had a very rough time going to bed. All he wanted to do is cuddle with me and have me stay with him. He didn't want to be alone. After reading our bedtime Bible story (it was about Samuel listening to God), he didn't want to sing a song. So I sang a song for him called Who Is Caring. It's about Jesus always being there and always hearing us when we call. He wouldn't pray but asked me to instead. And, then he threw a fit, begging me to cuddle and hold him. Being the terrible (loving) mom that I am, I calmly told him it was bedtime, that I loved him and then left the room. He screamed for me for more than 10 minutes, and then resorted to throwing himself out of bed so that he would be hurt and I would come rescue him. I stayed downstairs. Finally, he opened his door and came out into the hallway so I had no choice but to go place him back in bed. I held him for a few minutes and wiped his tears. Finally, he got back into bed, but didn't want me to leave. So I told him to close his eyes and think about Jesus. So, he closed his eyes so tight he was squinting and I explained how much Jesus loves him, even more than mommy (and mommy loves him so, so much). He grew more relaxed as I hugged him and prayed for Jesus to make himself and his love so real to Jackson as he was tring to think about Jesus. Then, Jackson whispered that he loved me, and I said I loved him too and said goodnight. He hasn't made a peep since. And, right now I have no doubt that Jesus and Jackson are having the most wonderful time in his dreams as my little boy sleeps.
1) Jackson sometimes (like a normal toddler) doesn't want to do things (like eat his food.) Jill has discovered that she has a unique ability when it comes to his stubborn will. If she affects a certain tone and tells him what to do, step by step, he'll do it!! He might grumble and complain a little, but he still does it. She even managed to get him to eat some of his chicken brocolli braid (of which he has never taken a bite before.) However, it gets a little old telling him what to do, step by step. So, I hope he grows out of this phase soon.
2) Jackson got his first black eye last night. He was playing downstairs with Jill in the playroom. In the playroom, we have a futon, since it acts as our guest bedroom as well. Jackson loves to play a game when we are on "Mommy and Daddy's" bed. He'll stand up, and then fall forward, stiff as a board, until he hits a pillow or something soft. Well, he thought he could do this on the futon since there were some pillows laying around. And in good ol' toddler misjudging distances fashion, he fell forward, missed the pillow, and cracked his head on the metal arm rest! It caught him just below the eye, right above the cheek bone. He's fine now, but he has one sweet black eye from it. I don't know if he'll be falling forward again for a while. Here are some pics of the damage.
For those of you who know about Veggie Tales (and in particular "Rack, Shack and Benny"), then you'll get this right away. For those who don't, let me give you a little background.
"Rack, Shack and Benny" is a creative retelling of the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego from the Bible. In the VT (VeggieTales) version, they all work at a chocolate bunny factory. One of the songs that their boss, Mr. Nezzer, sings is "The Bunny Song" which goes, "The Bunny. The Bunny. Oh, I love the Bunny."
Well, yesterday morning as Jill was doing her morning devotion/bible reading, Jackson came up to her and started singing, "The Bible. The Bible. Oh, I love the Bible."
This might not be that funny or amusing, but it certainly is creative!! What an imagine that little booger has.
The other morning while Jill was getting ready, she overheard a humorous interaction that Jackson had with his stuffed Elmo. Jackson was in our bedroom playing with Elmo (nothing new there.) But he began taking Elmo and saying to him, "Elmo, don't touch the lamp." Then he would make Elmo touch the lamp. "Elmo, I said 'Don't touch the lamp.'" Then he'd make Elmo touch the lamp. Finally, "Elmo, if you touch the lamp, you're gonna get a biiiiig spanking and a timeout." And again, he makes Elmo touch the lamp. And this is what cracks me up - he puts Elmo in timeout!!!!
Every night as part of Jackson's bedtime routine (and also for nap times), we will read a bible story, sing a song (almost always "Deep and Wide") and then pray. Jackson's prayers usually consist of "Jesus, thank you. Amen" This is, of course, a very good thing to pray. But, we've also been encouraging him to pray for other things. Well, last night when we asked Jackson to pray for bedtime, he says, "Jesus. Thank you for baby sister. Amen" Wow!!! What a thrill!
It wouldn't let me put them all in one post. So, here's the rest.
If you have trouble viewing any of the pictures in Facebook (and couldn't find the album Matt created), you can view them at our blog, www.mattcobb.com.
Well, it's official. Jill had an ultrasound yesterday, and the tech was 100% sure we were having a girl! We are very excited (but have not chosen a name yet!)
The day was very long and capped off with the ultrasound. Jill went to the hospital yesterday from noon to 3:30 with some lower abdomen pain. Obviously, we were a little concerned. We were relieved to find out it was kidney stones. Of course, that's a problem that Jill will have to manage with some pain meds. She'll have to pass the stones, so let's hope and pray that she'll be able to easily.
Well, let me get to the good stuff. Here are the pics from the ultrasound.
Join with us as our family grows in Jesus! Find highlights of our activities, plenty of Jackson updates :), and what God is teaching and revealing to us! Thanks for coming along on our journey together.
The passion of our lives is Jesus, pure and simple. It is Him who gives us purpose and meaning in our lives. He wants to do the same in your life! Follow the "ABC's" below and begin a life-changing relationship with the God who gave up everything to be with you.
A dmit you're not perfect. We all mess up and we live our lives apart from God - that's called sin. When we admit our sins and ask forgiveness, God will do it, guaranteed.
B elieve in Jesus Christ. That He is God and came to earth to live for us and died on a cross for our sins. He willingly took the punishment that we deserve, so we could be in a right relationship with God.
C ommit your life to Jesus. Decide to give all that you are to Him.
Pray, talk to God, about the ABCs, and invite Him to be King of your life. Pray something like this: Jesus, I believe in you. I believe you came to earth to live for me and make a way for me to be right with God. I admit that I've messed up many times in my life, and I ask you to forgive me. Wipe my slate clean. Jesus, thank you for dying on a cross to take my place. I believe that you rose from the dead, and because of that I will have eternal life in heaven. I trust and commit my life to you from this day forward. Amen.
As you prayed this from your heart, we want you to know that heaven is yours! In fact, there is a party going on right now in heaven, celebrating your decision to follow Jesus! Let us know so we can celebrate with you!
